I greet all of you with the peace of the Lord. For the thought I wish to share with you today, Saturday 3 August 2024, I will read a biblical verse written in:
2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
Today's verse invites us to reflect deeply on our Christian life. The apostle Paul, writing to Timothy, exhorts him to constantly strive to be a true disciple of Christ. But what exactly does it mean to “present yourself before God as an approved man”?
It means first of all being aware that our life is a work, a job to be completed. We are not simple spectators of the story, but protagonists. And what is our mission? That of announcing the good news of the Gospel, of cutting the word of truth correctly.
Being a "worker who has nothing to be ashamed of" means being faithful to our task, carrying it out with dedication and love. It means being ready to give an account to God of our every action, of every word spoken.
But how can we achieve this goal? How can we be faithful workers? First of all, by studying the Word of God assiduously, trying to fully understand its meaning. Secondly, by praying constantly, asking God for the strength and wisdom necessary to carry out our mission. And finally, living consistently with what we believe, bearing witness to the Gospel with our lives.
Today we want to pray together to the Lord saying: Father of Love, we thank you for your Word, which is a light for our steps. Help us to understand your plan for our lives better and better. Give us the grace to be faithful workers of your Gospel, announcing your truth with courage and love. Free us from all fear and doubt, and make us instruments in your hands to bring hope and consolation to a world thirsty for truth. In the name of Jesus... Amen!
